Walking With God: How a Daily Walk Can Strengthen Body and Faith
By Connie Grevengoed · August 26, 2026 · 5 min read
A daily walk is one of the simplest gifts you can give your body — and one of the easiest places to meet with God.
The most underrated form of movement
Walking asks so little of us. No equipment, no membership, no special clothing. And yet a regular walk supports the heart, the joints, the mind and the spirit all at once.
For women in midlife, walking is often the steadiest anchor in a wellness routine — the thing that stays when everything else feels like too much.
Begin with ten minutes
Ten minutes is not a small thing. It is a beginning you can repeat.
- Week one: ten minutes, most days.
- Week two: fifteen minutes, and notice how you feel afterward.
- Week three: twenty minutes, or two shorter walks.
Add a gentle hill or a slightly quicker stretch in the middle when your body asks for more. Let it be a conversation, not a command.
Turning a walk into a prayer walk
You do not need words prepared. Try a simple rhythm:
- The first few minutes — gratitude. Name three things as they come.
- The middle — bring what is heavy. Family, health, the thing you keep turning over.
- The last few minutes — listen. Walk slowly and simply be with God, unhurried.
"You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy." — Psalm 16:11
When the day gets away from you
Walk anyway, shorter. Five minutes around the block still counts. Rhythms survive on the days we keep them small rather than skip them entirely.
A gentle place to start this week
Choose your time — after breakfast, at lunch, after supper — and put it in the same spot each day. The body loves a rhythm, and so does the soul.
